How do I get over being scared to do my backhand spring?

I am an all-star cheerleader and i really need my backhand spring. I know i can do it by myself, i’ve already done it before. but my problem is that i’m really scared to do it without my coach spotting me. She doesn’t even do anything but i’m still scared. I need some tips on how to not be so scared. Thanks.

Wow… I quite honestly go through the same thing.

What works for me is I get my coach to spot the first one or two, but without touching me at all, all he really does is stand there to be honest, in my head it’s more of a ‘just in case’ thing. It warms you up to it a little, especially if it’s been a while since your last one. But also concentrate on why you want to do it so much, like if it’s going to get you further in your cheer, or if you’re trying to prove someone wrong.

Imagine yourself actually doing the back handspring, and most importantly don’t back out for it once you’ve gone for it, reach for the floor and then drive your hands to the ground. Focusing on the little things can really help and try to never let yourself second guess yourself.
