Where do I find the chemical formula for lead based candle wicks?

As a candlemaker over quite a few years, I can tell you that a lead candle wick is simply an ordinary cotton wick with a lead (metal) wire running up its center. The purpose was to support the wick in certain kinds of container candles (the lead would melt as the wick burned down). This kind of wick was replaced quite a few years back (in this country anyway) by wicks with a twisted paper core, which worked not nearly as well…. although they had no lead. The lead, when it melted, generally wound up as beads that stayed in the candle.

As for your question, there is no “formula” for such a wick. It’s just a wick with a metallic lead (Pb) wire in its center. Why there would be lead in a candle for any other reason I can’t say, but tend to doubt it.

BTW, it’s easy to identify a lead wick. The core is visible when it burns, and also if you cut the wick.
